''Development and financial Journalism for socio-economic transformation'' – with this basic objective, NAFIJ has been working for the socio-economic research based thematic issues along with the career enhancement of the financial journalists in Nepal.

Moreover with the aim of assisting development of independent economy, NAFIJ has been actively managing constructive activities for public debate through meeting, seminar, interactions and all that.

Those debates enhance the co-ordination among the policy makers, experts, public and private sectors, cooperatives, consumers and other stakeholders for the overall economic development.


BPC and NAFIJ conducted training for financial journalists



Nepal Bankers’ Association, Banking Promotion Committee (BPC), in association with Nepalese Association of Financial Journalists (NAFIJ) has organized a day-long orientation training for the journalists on analyzing the banking information.

‘With an aim to ensure correct information dissemination towards public through the accurate analysis of data, the programme is arranged’, said Rajan Singh Bhandari, Chairman, BPC and CEO, Citizens Bank Ltd.

During the programme held on May 20, 2011, experts presented their papers on core financial analysis of banking sector, evaluating and interpreting banking indicators, reporting financial crimes, reporting for good corporate governance and lifting the corporate veil and reporting the issues of merger and acquisition with special reference to the international practices.

Mr. Bhuwan Dahal and Binaya Regmi – bankers from Nabil Bank Ltd, Mr. Keshab Bd. K.C. – deputy director, Nepal Rastra Bank, Mr. Tanka Mani Sharma – director general, Department of Custom, Mr. Madhav Bhatta, Chairman, International Development Bank Ltd. offered their presentations in the programme.

'While both the sector, banking and media are compelled to work amid unpleasent working conditions, it is imperative to ensure professionalism' said Amrit Kharel, President, NAFIJ. He added, 'Precision journalism on the base of facts, figures, datas and verifications is of the utmost obligation at present to  enhance the financial journalism.'

In total, 33 financial journalists from different media houses comprising print, radio and televisions were participated in the programme.


Trainings for Financial Journalists



NAFIJ has organized training for the financial journalists on 13th march, 2010. The training programme was highly successful in terms of participation of financial journalists and their motivation from the training. Altogether 30 financial journalists from different media such as Print, Radio, Televisions and Online were participated in the training. Training was really fruitful for the enhancement of financial journalists on the recent phenomenon of banking sector and share market.

The training was breakthrough for the journalists to practice the precision journalism with data and statistics. Journalists from various dailes like Kantipur ,Karobar,  Naya Patrika, Janadisha were participated in the training. In same way journalists from different televisions like Avenues, Sagarmatha, News 24, NBEX Mountain TV and from reputed radio stations like Ujyalo National Network, Nepal FM Network, Radio Mirmire Network, Gorkha FM were participated in the training along with various weeklies and other online media.

Training from Ex-Governor Deependra B. Kshetry on the journalism within the basic legal frameworks was inspiring and the presentation form Sanjeeb Manandhar, GM, Prime Bank Ltd was highly appreciated by the journalists. In same way, training on the issues of stock Market by Dr. Gopal Bhatta, Academician and Assistant Director of Central Bank was really fruitful for the reporters. The mode of orientation was interactive and response from the participants was creative. Prime Bank has supported to organize the programme.

Similarly NAFIJ has been organizing various seminars and webinars to its members for internal capacity building and competitiveness advancement.



Meeting with Governor Dr. Yubaraj Khatiwada, Nepal Rastra Bank



NAFIJ officially held meeting with Governor Dr. Yubaraj Khatiwada, Nepal Rastra Bank and presented its anticipation to him. NAFIJ presents its suggestions regarding the reformation need to be done in the banking, financial and overall economic sector of Nepal. Those suggestions were highly appreciated by Governor Dr. Khatiwada. Nafij held the meetings on April 28, 2010 and September 09, 2010.

NAFIJ has been actively interacting with the policy makers, bureaucrats and the private sector regarding various other issues of economy with aim to promote the socio-economic transformation.



Interaction on 'FDI in HydroPower'



Experts welcomed the decision of largest party in Nepal; UCPN Maoist to halt the hydropower projects i.e. Upper Karnali, Mid-Marshyangdi etc. until a new hydropower policy is formed in an interaction organized by NAFIJ and Water and Energy User’s Federation (WAFED) jointly.

Experts Ratna Sansar Shrestha, Hiranya Lal Shrestha, Gopal Siwakoti Chintan, Chetendra Jung Himali, Dwarika Dhungel advocated on behalf of national interest regarding foreign direct investment in water resources and hydroelectricity sector in Nepal in the interaction held on 5th February 2010.



Facilitate consumers’ rights to get LPG



NAFIJ played a vital role to defend the rights of consumers to get liquid petroleum gas while there was shortage, due to the strike of dealers. NAFIJ held an interaction on 1st March 2010 jointly with Janasanchar Abhiyan to bring the stakeholders at one place for common understanding.

Dealers, Industrialists, consumer right activists and government officials were brought at a common forum and facilitated for consensus.



Government compelled to address Clean Feed



It was an effective round table seminar organized by NAFIJ on 17th November 2009 which pressurized the government to address the issue of ‘Clean Feed in foreign TV channels broadcasting’. Stakeholders from Ministry of Communication, Advertising Association Nepal, Television Broadcasters’s Nepal and other various institutions were participated in the seminar.

NAFIJ will be continuing its effort to support socio-economic transformation and strengthen the life standard of public.
